Because of Adam and Eve’s willful disobedience in the Garden of Eden, all of humanity inherited a sinful nature. Every human being after these two was born into a life of sin and faced the certainty of death.
The only way sinful humanity can be saved from eternal damnation is to recognize the true nature of human beings and make the conscious decision to ask forgiveness for sin, to turn away from ungodly living, and to submit to God’s will.
Confessing your sins is the same as saying, “I can’t live my life without the Lord. I believe that he lived as a human being, that he died to save me, and that he rose from the dead to prepare a home for me with our Father.”
Holy scripture tells us that we must be baptized in a symbolic representation of the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus. Just as Jesus, a perfect human being, was baptized, so must all of us be immersed in the cleansing stream of God’s forgiveness to show that we go into the water carrying our old lifestyle with us, but we are brought out of the water, born anew in the garments of God’s righteousness. Only after this rebirth can the Holy Spirit take up residence in your heart to guide you through life.
