John Divine Missionary Baptist in East St. Louis, IL, was founded in 1980. Since that year our family in Christ has endeavored to understand God’s plan for our lives as manifested through his Holy Word. Our beliefs and our work in the community are founded solely on the authority of Holy Scripture.
Biblical history tells us that the Christian church is divinely called, maintained and perpetuated by Jesus’s disciples here on earth. The Church is the earthly extension of the resurrected body of Christ, who triumphantly rose from the dead and reigns with God the Father.
John Divine Missionary Baptist is the body of Christ, whose members function throughout East St. Louis through teaching, worship, fellowship, baptism, and prayer. Before His crucifixion, Lord Jesus Christ told the first followers, "Upon this rock I will build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." (Matthew 16:18) We are that Rock.
The members of John Divine Missionary Baptist have entered into a covenant with one another as brothers and sisters in the family of God. We strive to walk together in Christian love, to educate our children in the ways of the righteous, to seek the salvation of those who do not yet know the saving grace of salvation, and to carry out the principles of Jesus Christ, Our Lord. We know that our watchwords, Walking By Faith, Expecting the Great, light the pathway to eternal happiness.
We invite you to join our devotional study and help us share the wonderful news of salvation. Our youth group is known throughout the region for its inculcation of Christian principles in young people. If you want to be assured of God’s salvation and plan for your life, we can offer the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
God’s promise of salvation is open to everyone, rich or poor, great or lowly. Visit our worship service, get to know our congregation, and join us in spiritual learning and in divine praise.
